Is improvisation and composing on the same level? Personally composing demands more thought process and planning, more analytical thinking and develops over time. Improvisation thrives in trial and error, immediate relationship with the environment.
Both practices influence each other, many of my pieces were born from improvising, as I labor over them I am better able to judge techniques.

What makes this music different from other free jazz stemming from the 60s?
A friend of mine did a research on pianists from Detroit: Barry Harris; Tommy Flannagan for example. I would be interested in knowing more about the interaction between a regional style versus a personal one.
In folk music differences in style do exist, instrumentation, language, dance: North and South Indian Music for example.
